After a 0-4 start, the Phillies’ early season struggles continue. Fourth in the East, the reigning NL champs really need to find their spark. Enter Bryson Stott. The second-year infielder has a hit in all 16 games played, tying a Phillies’ franchise record for longest hit streak to start a season.

The modern-day record, previously held by Willie “Puddin’ Head” Jones, spans all the way back to 1950. Stott not only tied the record, but he tied it in fashion with a lead-off home run yesterday afternoon against the Cincinnati Reds. The hit was Stott’s first home run of the season.

Bryson, batting .380, now has 27 hits on the season. His home run yesterday from the 1-spot sparked a 9-run first inning against opposing pitcher Luis Cessa. It was the Phillies biggest inning since scoring 10 runs in the first inning against Mets on the same day (the irony) in 2019. The Phils had a season-high 8 hits in the first.

Stott set the tone early and the Phillies followed his lead. Stott ended the day with 1 run, 3 hits, and 2 runners batted-in. Turner, Realmuto and Bohm all had 3 hits as well, while Marsh had 4. The Phils beat the Reds 14-3, splitting their 4-game series.

The Phillies, now 6-10, take on the Chicago White Sox tonight. All eyes will be on Bryson Stott as he looks to break the franchise record for consecutive games with a hit to start the season.
