Philly Phavorite by Iron Hill Brewery lives up to its name. It’s quickly becoming one of my phavorite beers. Seriously, this beer is packed full of flavor.

About Iron Hill Brewery

Iron Hill first opened its doors in 1996 in Newark, Delaware. Two years later, the brewery opened a second location in West Chester, PA. Since then, Iron Hill has grown exponentially, adding several more locations in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and South Carolina. There’s even a brewery in the heart of Center City, Philadelphia… the true inspiration for Philly Phavorite.

The stats

StyleNew England IPA
IngredientsFlaked oats and wheat
ABV6.7%
AvailabilityYear-round

This hazy beer may be considered a New England IPA, but its inspiration is pure Philly. Brewed with flaked oats and wheat, this beer features tropical fruit and resinous pine notes almost as intense as your passion for the home team. Whether you’re cracking one open at a tailgate or in your living room, you can just taste the brotherly love. – Iron hill Brewery

Lazy, Hazy and Tropical

Philly Phavorite pours smooth and boasts an opaque mango color. It has a tropical aroma reinforced with a moderate piney-orange-grapefruit flavor. Unlike other IPAs in its class, Philly Phavorite is more sweet than bitter. It’s fruity-hoppy aftertaste isn’t overpowering. Overall, it’s hazy and delicious.

At just under 7% ABV, Philly Phavorite is bold, but not too bold. You’re probably not going to drink 5 pints in one sitting, nor do you have to limit yourself to just one. If moderation was a beer, this would be it. Philly Phavorite is absolutely perfect for a lazy day on the couch.

If Looks Could Kill

Iron Hill’s branding is on point! I love the label on this can. When you think of Philly, what do you think of… City Hall, Billy Pen, the Eagles, the Liberty Bell, Rocky Balboa? This can has it all. Donning the colors of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phightin’ Phils, this beer is truly eye-catching. Honestly, it’s probably the main reason I picked this beer over its local competitors. It stands out in a crowded market.

Tastes Expensive without the Price Tag

I picked up a 4-pack of 16oz cans at my go to beer store in South Philly, Beer Peddlers. Whereas similar IPAs can easily eclipse $20, Philly Phavorite only costs around 15 bucks. At first, it reminded me of The Shape of Hops to Come by Neshaminy Creek Brewing with all of its tropical notes. However, unlike its Neshaminy Creek competitor, Philly Phavorite goes down much smoother. Overall, I give Philly Phavorite by Iron Hill Brewery 4.5 out of 5 stars.
